Most everyday harnesses are made from flat nylon webbing, and on a warm day that means three or four straps of solid fabric pressed against your dog's chest with nowhere for the heat to go. Dogs don't sweat through their skin - they shed heat through panting and through blood flow near the surface. Wrapping the chest in unbreathable material works directly against that.

This breathable mesh dog harness replaces the solid chest panel with an open-weave mesh that lets air move through it. Padded wrap straps spread the load across the shoulders and ribs, and the whole thing weighs almost nothing.

Why Mesh Makes A Difference

Air moves through it. The open weave means the skin underneath isn't sealed off, which matters on summer walks and for thick-coated breeds who overheat in the shade, let alone the sun.

It dries fast. After rain, a river or a bath, mesh drips dry in a fraction of the time solid nylon takes - so you're not putting a damp harness back on a dog the next morning.

It doesn't hold smell. Solid padded harnesses trap moisture against the coat and start to smell within weeks. Mesh doesn't hold water long enough for that to happen.

Measuring And Fitting

1. Chest: soft tape around the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs, with your dog standing.
2. Neck: around the base of the neck, where the strap will sit.
3. Add 2–3 cm to both figures before comparing to the chart - that's the difference between a comfortable fit and a tight one.

Between sizes, take the larger one. Every strap adjusts down, none adjust up.

Once fitted, two fingers should slide comfortably under any strap. Walk a minute and re-check - harnesses settle, and the girth strap in particular usually needs a small adjustment after the first few steps.

Care

Hand wash in cool water with mild detergent and air dry - mesh dries in an hour or two, so there's rarely a reason to rush it with heat. Avoid the machine and the tumble dryer; buckles crack against a drum and heat distorts the mesh weave. Check the stitching around the D-ring every few weeks, since that's where load concentrates on any harness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it stop my dog pulling?
No. The leash clips between the shoulders, which is the same geometry a sled dog pulls from - no back-clip harness stops pulling, whatever the marketing says. What it does is make pulling safe, by keeping the force off the throat. If pulling is your main problem, you want a harness with a front chest attachment point; you'll find those in our Dogs collection.

Is a leash included?

Is mesh strong enough?
For everyday walking with a well-mannered dog, yes - the load sits on the padded straps and the D-ring, not on the mesh panel. For a powerful dog who lunges hard, a webbing-based harness with reinforced stitching is the more sensible choice.

Can my dog escape from it?
Correctly adjusted, it holds most dogs securely. It isn't a specialist escape-proof design though, so for a determined backwards-reversing escape artist, look for a harness with a second girth strap.

Does it get hot in summer?
Less than a solid harness, which is the whole point of the mesh. It's still fabric against the chest, so on genuinely hot days walk early or late regardless of what your dog is wearing.
