Travel carriers force a compromise. Small enough to carry comfortably means small enough that your cat is wedged in place for the whole journey - and if there's a wait at the other end, they stay wedged.

This carrier unzips outwards on both sides. Closed, it's a manageable 46 × 28 × 28 cm for carrying and stowing. Open the side panels and it becomes a room your pet can actually turn around and stretch out in - at the vet, in a hotel, at a friend's house, or wherever the waiting happens.

Four Doors, Which Solves A Real Problem

Anyone who has tried to post a reluctant cat through a single front opening knows why this matters. Cats brace against a horizontal entrance - legs out, everything locked. Lowering them in vertically through a top door works with gravity instead of against it, and most cats accept it without a fight.

Four openings also mean you can reach in from whichever side you need without unloading your pet, and you can open the carrier at the vet without your cat having a clear escape route in front of them.

It Holds Its Shape

The frame uses high-density EVA board with an Oxford cloth outer, and the base is a rigid PP panel. That combination is what stops the roof sagging onto your pet and the floor bowing when you lift it - the two things that go wrong on cheaper soft carriers, and both of them things your cat notices immediately.

Set it down and it stays upright and square rather than slumping sideways.

Details Worth Having

• Removable fleece bed. Suede-backed, soft on top, lifts out completely and goes in the washing machine. This is the part that gets dirty, and it's the part that comes out.
• Internal safety clip. A metal swivel clip attaches to your pet's harness, so an unzipped door doesn't become an open door.
• Two reflective strips. One on each side, for walking to the car in the dark.
• Mesh on every panel. Air moves through from all directions, and your pet can see out - the opposite problem to bubble carriers, which trap heat behind clear plastic.
• Heavy-duty zips with paired pulls, so you can zip from either direction.
• Shoulder strap and top handle, plus a luggage pass-through so it rides on a suitcase.
• Seat belt securable in the car, so it doesn't slide on corners.
• 1.35 kg empty - light enough that most of what you're carrying is your pet.

Dimensions

Measure your pet nose to base of tail, and check they can sit upright without their head pressing the roof. At 28 cm internal height, this suits cats and small dogs - height is what runs out first on any soft carrier, whatever the weight figures suggest.

Flying With It - Read This Properly

There is no such thing as a universal "airline approved" pet carrier, whatever the listings on other sites tell you. Every airline publishes its own maximum under-seat dimensions, and they differ significantly - some allow around 45 × 28 × 25 cm, others are considerably smaller.

At 46 × 28 × 28 cm closed, this carrier exceeds the limit at a number of airlines. And the expandable panels, which are the best thing about it on the ground, are generally not permitted to be opened in a cabin.

So before you book: find your specific airline's current pet carrier specification, check it against the closed dimensions above, and confirm it in writing if you can. Please don't take any seller's word for it - including ours. Being turned away at the gate with a cat is not a situation anyone recovers from gracefully.

For car travel, vet trips, hotels, trains and everything on the ground, none of this applies. That's where this carrier is at its best.

Care

Lift out the fleece bed and machine wash it. Wipe the shell with a damp cloth and mild detergent, and let it dry fully open before folding - Oxford cloth put away damp will smell within days. Brush hair off the mesh rather than picking at it. Store it flat rather than compressed, so the EVA panels keep their shape.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much bigger does it get when expanded?
Both side panels unzip outwards to create substantially more floor space. Use the expansion when the carrier is stationary - in a hotel room, at home, in a waiting area - and keep it closed while carrying.

Can I leave my cat in it expanded for a few hours?
For a rest stop or a hotel evening, yes, with supervision and access to water. It's a travel carrier rather than a long-term crate, so for extended stays a proper folding crate gives more room - there are options in our Cats collection.

Does it get hot inside?
Far less than a bubble carrier. Mesh on all four sides means air passes straight through instead of being trapped behind clear plastic. Normal sense still applies: shade, and never left in a parked car.

Will my cat go in willingly?
Better odds than most, because of the top door - lowering a cat in vertically avoids the bracing that makes front-loading carriers a wrestling match. Leave it open at home for a few days first and it gets easier still.

Is a harness included?
