The usual objection to sling carriers is a fair one: they're open at the top, and a startled animal can be out of one in a second. Lovely for a calm dog on a quiet street, unnerving anywhere busier.

This one closes. A zip runs along the top of the pouch and a drawstring cinches the opening around your pet, so their head stays out and the rest of them stays in. You get the closeness and comfort of a sling with a meaningful amount of containment.

Breathable All The Way Through

The pouch is built from a spacer mesh rather than solid fabric - the same open-structure material used in the backs of office chairs. Air passes straight through the base and sides, which matters when your pet is pressed against your body and taking your warmth on top of the air temperature.

It's the difference between a fifteen-minute walk and an hour one. Solid-bottomed slings get warm fast; this doesn't.

What's On It

  • Zip and drawstring closure to secure your pet in the pouch
  • Full mesh construction through the base and sides for airflow
  • Wide padded shoulder strap with a mesh backing panel
  • Adjustable strap from 86 to 109 cm, so it sits where you want it
  • Reflective piping along the edges for evening walks
  • Front zip pocket for keys, phone, treats and waste bags
  • Oxford cloth outer that wipes clean and takes daily use

Size Chart

Measure your pet's back length - from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, standing - and check it alongside their weight.

Size Back length Weight
S under 20 cm / 8 in under 2.3 kg / 5 lb
M 20–29 cm / 8–11.5 in up to 4.5 kg / 10 lb

Both measurements need to fit. A pet under the weight limit but longer than the back-length range will hang out of the pouch awkwardly; one within the length but heavier will sit too low and pull on your shoulder. If either figure is over, size up - and if you're above the M range on both, a sling isn't the right carrier for your dog.

This is a genuinely small-pet product: think Chihuahuas, Yorkshire Terriers, Pomeranians, Toy Poodles, Maltese, small cats and kittens.

Suits

  • Puppies on early outings, before vaccinations are complete and the ground is off limits
  • Small dogs who tire halfway through a walk
  • Elderly small dogs who want to come but can't do the distance
  • Small cats comfortable with handling
  • Warm weather, where mesh beats an enclosed carrier by a wide margin
  • Short errands and city walking where hands-free matters
  • Recovering pets told to limit walking but going stir crazy

Being Straight With You

A closed sling is more secure than an open one, but it isn't escape-proof. Your pet's head is out, and a determined animal can work their way up and out. Put a harness on them and clip it to the internal safety strap before you set off - every time, not just when you remember.

It isn't a vet-visit carrier. A waiting room full of unfamiliar dogs is exactly the situation where a sling stops being enough. Use an enclosed carrier for that; there are several in our Cats collection.

Your shoulder is the real limit. Even at 4.5 kg, one-sided weight adds up over distance. For longer carries, a backpack-style carrier is much easier on your back.

Care

Hand wash in cool water with mild detergent and air dry away from direct heat. The spacer mesh holds water, so give it longer to dry than it looks like it needs, and don't fold it away damp. Brush loose hair out of the mesh rather than picking at it, and store it flat so the pouch keeps its shape.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from a soft fabric sling?
This one zips closed and uses breathable mesh throughout - more secure and much cooler. A plain fabric sling is softer and lighter but stays open at the top. Both are in our Dogs collection.

My dog is 6 kg. Which size?
Neither, unfortunately. The M size takes up to 4.5 kg - the larger figures you may see elsewhere for this style come from pounds being read as kilograms. For a 6 kg dog, a backpack carrier is the right answer.

Can my pet see out?
Their head sits above the opening, so they can see everything. The drawstring adjusts around the neck opening rather than closing over them.

Does it get hot inside?
Less than almost any other carrier style. The mesh base and sides mean air moves through continuously. Normal sense still applies - shade over direct sun, and shorter trips on hot days.

Is a harness included?
No, and you'll want one for this carrier specifically. Harnesses are in our Cats collection and Dogs collection.

Will my cat accept it?
Confident, people-oriented cats often settle quickly. Skittish ones usually prefer an enclosed box. Introduce it at home first, with treats and the strap off your shoulder.

A Note On Measurements

Dimensions are measured by hand and may vary by 1–2 cm. Colours can appear different across phone and monitor screens depending on lighting and calibration - the item itself is the accurate reference.
